Here is the accompanying verse by Brian Sibley:

‘A Cloud of Bats’

A colony of bats is a ‘bunch’ or a ‘batch’,

Lurking deep in a cave’s dark recess;

But the naming of bats has a singular catch

Which, with thought, is quite easy to guess:

For, quitting their haunts, as night-time falls,

They swoop and droop like a graveyard shroud,

Squeaking their shrill, multi-decibel calls,

And simply describing themselves as ‘a cloud’.
