‘A Charm of Goldfinches’
A flock of goldfinches is known as a charm
Perhaps because, spell-like, they keep you from harm;
Or bring you good fortune; or find you a spouse;
Or ensure that no burglar breaks into your house.
Such powers would certainly make them disarming,
But I think it’s their gilding that makes them so charming.
